Homeschooling Charlotte Mason style is my goal for our two young preschoolers. This morning was absolutely beautiful and we put everything aside to head out to the park for a nature walk. We started by observing some roly polies, ants, and tree bark. Next, we headed straight to the pond and as we got closer the ducks started heading straight for us. Maybe it's my memory being a little bit fuzzy but I don't remember ducks being this pushy at Fireman's Park when I was little. Our local flock is like a small mafia gang. You don't have your payment of bread ready and it gets ugly. As they walked toward us, I realized that I had indeed forgotten the bread. The ducks assessed the situation quickly and headed straight towards the first person they saw with any form of food, the Petite Princess with her biscuit. They got in front of her, looked at her sideways, up and down, front and back. In the second I turned to look for Tidalwave, the boldest of the ducks snatched the Petite Princess's biscuit from her hand and started waddling away as fast as her little legs could carry her with the rest of the mob in hot pursuit of this highly coveted morsel. The Petite Princess broke out in blood curdling screams. We split some of Tidalwave's biscuit off, took some deep breaths, and calmed down. All seemed well. Then the ducks started back for seconds. Judging from my sweet, animal loving little girl's reaction of screaming and attempting to climb my legs into my arms as the ducks headed back towards us, I think it is safe to say the ducks are no longer her friends. We will start saving for therapy now.
I'll remember the camera on the next trip to the pond so we can get mug shots to post of Boldie the Biscuit Stealer.
